So it goes..

I decided for my first book that I am going to read Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five". I read this book a few years ago and fell in love with it. However, I wanted to revisit the book considering I really appreciated it the first time I read it and wanted a chance to get to read it again. One main idea that I remember from the book is Vonnegut's incorporation of the frequent "So it goes..." statement. This sentence to me has more significance than I think that it does to the majority of other readers who come across this. I think that most people don't realize the comic relief intended in the little "so it goes". After death, dying and mortality take place, Vonnegut throws in the phrase as a transition with implied humor. I find the phrase interesting that it comes up within the book 116 times, so it is clearly a signature writing of Vonnegut's. Kurt's writing implements and techniques helped him develop the style he currently popular and recognized for.
